Our Workshops are aimed at potential Non-Executive Directors and NEDs who have just acquired their first role. Attendees are likely to be successful business people, whom we believe have the ability to be excellent Non-Execs and whom we know would like to gain a better understanding of the complexities of being an effective NED.
Our Workshop covers:
• How the NED role has evolved
• Culture, Assurance and Governance
• Reluctant Networking
• The Ideal Board
• Experience of a newly appointed NED
• What a Chairman looks for in a Board
• Producing a NED CV and how to find your 1st NED role
There will also be plenty of opportunity to network with the speakers, guest experts and other attendees.
First Flight have placed many first time Non-Executive Directors; we consider them to be more enthusiastic, more committed and as having more time to understand the business. This makes them more effective than Non Execs with multiple roles who have taken on too many appointments and therefore cannot make a proper contribution to all the boards they sit on.
We are strong advocates of broadening the Non Exec gene pool and we campaign to reduce the number of roles Non Execs should hold. 10% of UK Non Execs still hold more than 10 appointments but we believe a maximum of 4 roles is optimal for an informed and effective NED relationship. This is in line with the UK Corporate Governance Code.
Fewer roles per Non Exec means that more new Non Execs are required and First Flight's NED Workshops are an ideal way for potential Non Execs to gain a comprehensive technical overview and practical insight of what being an effective NED is all about, what companies will expect of them and how to further their Non Exec career.
